On May 14th the Atlanta Tennis Community lost one of its most beloved servants. Rick Willett was born into a tennis family and, like his father before him, had a heart for helping others. He didn't make his living in tennis, but his passion for the sport was second to none. Rick was the "Iron Man of Continuing Education" and could always be found at USTA and USPTA (now RSPA) conventions and seminars. His most recent volunteer position was as president of the RSPA Georgia chapter.
Over the last 15 years Rick also spent time teaching for Universal Tennis Academy at Bitsy Grant and Blackburn Tennis Centers. Rick loved being on court, and especially enjoyed working with beginner adults! He made learning fun for his students, and countless players in the Atlanta area got their start in tennis with Rick.
While his professional and service accomplishments were impressive, above all Rick Willett was a kind person of strong faith. He always had a smile on his face and an encouraging word for his co-workers and students. Tennis lost a great ambassador, but Atlanta lost a great man.
